Unprecedented Funding Available for Brownfields Renewal

Brownfields Revitalization Fund

In 2021 the Vermont Legislature allocated $25 million in funding to characterize and clean up brownfield sites. This is the State’s largest general fund investment in the Brownfields Revitalization Fund to-date and $10 million of this funding is now available as grant funding for eligible projects.

Eligibility:

  • Site must be enrolled in the Brownfields Reuse and Environmental Liability Limitation Program (BRELLA).
  • Site must have a DEC approved Corrective Action Plan (CAP) or have a CAP pending.
  • Applicant must be a non-profit, for-profit, or municipality with a project site located in Vermont.
  • Applicant must demonstrate the ability to meet a 10% match.

The Brownfields Revitalization Fund promotes the productive reuse of sites that are currently abandoned or not fully utilized due to contamination on the site. By providing financial assistance for cleaning up these sites, Vermont continues its commitment to environmental stewardship, community investment, and economic growth.

The Notice of Funding Availability is available here.
