Message from GMEDC's Executive Director

Hello from White River Junction. While our region manages the impact of ongoing weather events GMEDC is working with the state and the SBA to prepare for recovery. As those plans and resources come online, you will be hearing from us with information and direct support as available. Given the severe weather already experienced, and that being predicted for the days ahead, it is still unclear what the collective recovery will look like. However, as information relevant to our eventual recovery work is shared, we will make sure that it comes to your attention. Stay well, be safe.

Business Disaster Recovery Guide from VtSBDC

  From VtSBDC: https://www.vtsbdc.org/disaster-recovery/

Surviving any disaster is complex. We have created a 72-page bound workbook containing all the steps needed post-disaster to create the most successful and sustainable outcome for Vermont’s businesses.

The VtSBDC Disaster Recovery Guide for Business contains all the steps small business owners need to take, and all the information one would need to gather post-disaster. It is in order of the tasks we found businesses needed to take after tropical storm Irene devastated Vermont in 2011. It is filled with checklists, to do lists and worksheets to help you keep all your information in one place.

The guide can be self-directed or reviewed with the assistance of an area business advisor, and can be accessed using the link below.

Some Answers to Common Questions from SBA

  1. Can businesses clean up the mud and debris and damaged inventory, equipment furniture fixtures now for safety and sanitation or will that affect their potential disaster loan amount? Yes, they can clean and sanitize, as necessary. Please take pictures and keep receipts and documentation of expenses.
  2. Can they replace ruined inventory, equipment, F&F, supplies and get reimbursed from the disaster loan proceeds? Yes, they would still maintain eligibility. Similarly, to #1 above, they need to take pictures and keep receipts and documentation of expenses.

VERMONT 211 WANTS YOUR DISASTER INFORMATION

In order to help the state apply for the FEMA Individual Assistance Program, the state of Vermont need to collect details about damage to your residence or business: https://vermont211.org/business-form#Business%20Form

If you are a business in the state of Vermont, please fill out the form on the above link with as much detail as possible. These forms are being collected to present to FEMA. The more forms completely filled out, the greater chance that we will have enough to qualify for FEMA assistance. Do not contact FEMA directly; the state does not yet have access to FEMA resources. It is also very important that you give us permission to share your information with agencies that can help.
