  • Dartmouth Real Estate has put together a list of rentals in the Upper Valley. You can filter for both short term rentals and long term rentals, make sure to apply a filter under "lease type"
  • Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction, VT has some short term hostel type accommodations
  • Gray Ledges Rentals provide services for those searching for both short term and long term rentals
  • Check out Travel Nurse Housing for monthly listings in Lebanon, NH and surrounding areas. Travel Nurses, Travel Techs, Locum Tenens, LPN, and AHP workers are all welcome

First-Time Buyer Resources

  • Affordable Homes VT has compiled a list of resources for homebuyer education/housing pre-purchase counseling, financial management/credit repair, and legal assistance
  • The Vermont Housing Finance Agency can help first time home buyers by providing financing and other supports
  • Check out their ASSIST program, which provides up to $10,000 for down payment and closing costs in the form of a zero-interest, deferred loan
  • Visit VHFA's MOVE program, which offers 30-year fixed-rate mortgages with low down payments and potential eligibility for federal tax credits
  • VHFA's First Generation Homebuyer Grant offers a $15,000 grant for those whose parents or guardians did not own a home (and can be combined with the ASSIST program for a total of $25,000)
  • The New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority (NHHFA) offers low income and first time homebuyer programs that help prepare and subsidize housing in NH
  • Check out the NH Housing Cash Assistance Program that provides up to 3% of the loan amount as cash assistance for down payment, closing costs, and prepaid items
  • Visit their Home Start Homebuyer Tax Credit Program, which offers a Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC), providing a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of 50% of mortgage interest paid each year (up to $2,000 per year)
  • For help before, during, and after the home buying process, check out Downstreet Housing and Community Development. They serve central Vermont and have programs to provide downpayment assistance, home repair resources, and other tools that help low and moderate income families purchase and maintain homes

The Upper Valley Strong has compiled a housing resource directory with information on overnight shelter, rental housing, tenant rights, and more


Southwestern Community Services has a variety of affordable housing units for both families and seniors. Various complexes are located in Windsor and Windham counties in Vermont and Cheshire and Sullivan counties in New Hampshire


The Lebanon Housing Authority is a public housing agency that aims to provide affordable, decent, safe and sanitary housing to income-eligible families and elderly persons in the Upper Valley


FindHelp.org lists various homebuyer programs (including credit counseling, foreclosure counseling, homebuyer education, lease-purchase programs, and security deposit assistance resources)


The Upper Valley Workforce Housing Program focuses on increasing the supply of workforce housing in the region


The Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity focuses on helping to build homes and creating affordable mortgages

Home Weatherization and Repairs

The Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development offers a Weatherization Assistance Program that can help eligible applicants make about $10,000 worth of improvements per home, add about 1500 square feet of insulation, and reduce drafts by about 40% 


The Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development also offers an 
Energy Assistance Program that offers a discount on the monthly electric bill from 8% to 86% based on gross household income and household size 


The Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development also offers an 
Fuel Assistance Program that helps eligible applicants pay part of their home heating bills. 


Cover Home Repair is a local nonprofit that aims to build community by collaborating with volunteers and homeowners to improve homes and by promoting the sustainable reuse of donated goods. They provide home repairs, weatherization, and a Cover Repair Store. 


Tri-County CAP's Weatherization Program provides an assessment of the household's energy efficiency to identify ways to improve efficiency and save costs related to heating, cooling, electricity, hot water, etc. Assistance is provided to income-eligible households in implementing improvements that will increase energy efficiency and reduce costs
